Wild Pet Encounters

Discover wild epic and legendary pets on expeditions, earn their trust over five visits, and choose whether to bring them home.

Wild pets roam every Expedition destination — and every one of them is an Epic or, on the rarest days, a Legendary. You cannot buy or adopt these meetings: you earn them, one patient visit at a time. Your progress lives in the Encounter Journal.

Where to find it

  • Encounter Journal: /expeditions/encounters
  • Discoveries happen while collecting an expedition on the Expeditions page
  • The Expeditions header shows a Wild Friends counter that links to the journal

Discovering a wild pet

When you collect an expedition yourself, there is a 5% chance something is watching from the edge of the scene — fresh tracks, a distant silhouette. That starts an encounter at that destination.

  • Only one wild pet can be active for your account at a time.
  • After a discovery, the wilds go quiet for about 3 days before another pet can appear.
  • Auto-collected expeditions never trigger a discovery — you have to be there.
  • The wild pet is always Epic, with roughly a 3% chance of being Legendary instead. Legendary encounters are meant to be genuinely rare — seeing one is an event.
  • The wild pet is always a species you do not already own.

Earning trust — five visits

Each expedition you collect at that destination is one visit, and each visit allows one action. Trust builds over 5 visits:

  1. Observe from a distance — it notices you, and doesn't run.
  2. Watch quietly — it comes closer, and you learn something about what it likes.
  3. Offer something — the first accepted offering. You finally see it clearly: species and rarity revealed.
  4. Offer again — it takes the gift straight from your hand now.
  5. A parting gift — it trusts you completely.

Offerings

From the third visit on, you win the pet over with food or toys from your backpack. Every wild pet prefers one or the other — the hint from your quiet watching tells you which. Both types are always shown in the picker; reading the hint is the game.

  • A right offering is consumed and trust grows.
  • A wrong offering is refused — the item is not consumed, but the pet hides for about 6 hours before it will show itself again. You never lose the pet for guessing wrong; you only wait.
  • Items listed in your shop or locked into trades cannot be offered.

Adopting — always your choice

After the final visit the pet is ready to come home, and it will wait for you as long as it takes. Adopting is entirely optional:

  • You need an open pet slot and a name (the usual rules: 3–16 lowercase letters and numbers, unique across MiroPets).
  • A befriended wild pet joins you as a full-grown adult — it grew up in the wild, after all.
  • There is no fee beyond the offerings you already gave.
  • Not ready? It waits. Want to walk away? Choose Let it wander free — the journal remembers the friendship that almost was.

The Encounter Journal

One card per destination: silhouettes and trust progress for pets you are still winning over, full portraits for friends you have made, and a question mark where no wild pet has shown itself yet. Fill it at your own pace — there is no reward for rushing, only more friends.

Tips

  • The hint is everything. Watch before you offer.
  • Keep a couple of foods and toys in your backpack before visiting your wild pet, so the right offering is never out of reach.
  • Befriending a Legendary is one of the rarest feats in MiroPets — Rigby has been known to announce it to the whole community in Global Chat.
  • Your first befriended wild pet earns the Wild Friend charm.
