The Reading Nook is the reading list for your whole family of pets. For every hatched pet it shows the stories that pet has not heard yet — first the books already on your shelf, then the unread ones on sale right now — so you always know who to read to next and what to buy. Open it from the Pets menu (the entry is simply Nook) or at /reading-nook/. The Pets menu entry shows a violet number whenever pets at home have a new story waiting in your backpack and room to learn today — that is how many pets the Nook can hand you a Read to button for right now. It disappears once they have all been read to.

What counts as a new story

Every pet keeps its own reading journal, so a book is "new" for a pet until that pet has been read it once. The same book can be a new story for one pet and old news for another. There are 70 books to collect per pet, and the Nook counts each pet's journal against that total.

What is on the page

  • Next read. One suggested pairing at the top: the pet at home with the fewest stories (and room to study today) and the best unread book you already own — press the button and the book is read on the spot. When nothing on your shelf is new for anyone, it turns into a Next book to buy with the rarest unread book for sale, the cheapest copy and a link straight to its card.
  • Today's reading. The Little Library free claim, the Story Time and Story Circle daily quests (a quest that is not in today's rotation still shows, greyed out, with what it pays when it comes round), and your den's Reading Rally meter (with whether you have read to the 3 different pets it takes to earn the book).
  • Your listeners. Every hatched pet in your custom order, each showing its Intelligence tier and how many of the 70 stories it has heard. A violet badge means new stories are waiting in your backpack, an amber dot means the pet has studied enough for today, and pets away at the Hotel, the Park, on an expedition or at School show where they are until they come home. Pick a pet to open its shelves. Every pet has its own address, `/reading-nook/` followed by the pet's name, and the address bar follows whichever pet is open — so when you head to a shop for a book and come back, you land on that pet's shelves again, and you can bookmark or share a pet's reading list directly.
  • In your backpack. The books you own that this pet has not heard, most Intelligence first, each with a Read to button. Books this pet has already heard are counted but not shown — read those from the pet's page if you like.
  • In the shops. Unread books for sale right now that you do not already own, with the cheapest copy's price and where it is, laid out like shop cards. Rarest first is the default; switch to Cheapest first when shopping for volume. Every link lands on that book's card in the shop. The shelf shows five books at a time with a Show all toggle, and the heading adds up what the whole shelf would cost.
  • Why read? The Intelligence ladder from Curious to Genius with what each tier pays, and every one of your pets plotted along it.

Reading from the Nook

A read from the Nook is exactly the same as a read from the pet's page: the book is used up, the pet gets the book's XP and other effects, and Intelligence is awarded — +1 for a common book, +2 for rare, +3 for epic or legendary — up to 5 Intelligence per pet per day from books. A pet that has hit today's allowance shows an amber notice; you can still read to it (a new story still goes in the journal, and the book keeps its other effects), it just will not learn more until tomorrow. Reads count for the daily quests and the Reading Rally too.

When the perk cannot fire any more, the read still goes through. A Journal, Pet Glossary or Item Catalog you have already unlocked, an Evolvotome read to an adult, a recipe book when every recipe is known: the pet still hears the story and earns the Intelligence, the copy is used up like any other read, and the effect simply does nothing. The pet page marks these as Story only before you tap.

Where the shop prices come from

The Nook looks at the NPC shops, the Swap Swamp shelf and other players' shops. A player-shop copy only counts as for sale when it is priced within 3 times the book's normal shop price, so a joke listing never hides the real one. Auctions are left out — a bid is not a buy — and a book you already own is left off the shop shelf so you never buy a duplicate by mistake.

Good habits

  1. Start with the Next read — it always picks the pet who is furthest behind.
  2. Claim the free Little Library book every day, then come back to the Nook to see which pet it is new for.
  3. Spread reads across pets: Story Circle and the Reading Rally both count different pets, and every pet has its own daily allowance.
  4. Epic books teach three times as much as common ones — when shopping, sort by what the shelf shows first.
