Release to the Wild
Permanently part with a pet and free its slot immediately — and how releasing differs from rehoming a pet through the Adoption Center.
Release to the Wild permanently removes a pet from your account and frees its pet slot immediately. It is the way to let a pet go without handing it to another player — if you want your pet to find a new family instead, that is rehoming, covered in the Adoption Center article and compared below.
Where to find it
Open the pet's page from My Pets and scroll to the Manage Pet section. The Release to the Wild button sits just below the rehoming option.
What happens when you release a pet
- The pet is removed from your account permanently. Released pets do not appear in the Adoption Center and cannot be adopted back or recovered — not by you, not by support.
- Your pet slot is freed immediately.
- The XP the pet earned while with you stays on your account, so your player level does not drop.
- The pet's name is retired with them and cannot be reused for a new pet.
Confirming a release
Releasing cannot be undone, so the game makes you prove you mean it: type the pet's exact name into the confirmation box before the Release Forever button unlocks (capitalization doesn't matter). There is no cost, no cooldown, and no level requirement.
When a pet cannot be released
- Eggs — wait for the egg to hatch first.
- Pets that are away — bring them home from the Hotel, an Expedition, or the Pet Park first.
- Pets tied up in trading — cancel the adoption listing, Haggle Hut listing, or active trade first; trade-locked pets cannot be released.
- Den leaders — a pet that leads a Den must hand over leadership before it can be released.
Release or rehome?
Both options live in the same Manage Pet section, but they do very different things:
- Rehoming (List for Adoption) offers the pet to other players through the Adoption Center. You set a price (0 MPC for a free adoption), the listing runs for 24 hours, and your slot only frees up when someone adopts. Rehoming requires a verified email and player Level 3 or higher. Careful: if nobody adopts the pet before the listing expires, the pet leaves MiroPets permanently — it does not return to you.
- Release to the Wild is immediate and final. No other player receives the pet, no coins change hands, and there is no waiting period.
If you want the pet to have a new family, rehome it — ideally at a friendly price so it finds one within the 24 hours. If you simply need the slot back, release it. Either way, the pet's earned XP stays with you.
