Griffin Trials

Two rival 50-level fetch-quest ladders run by the Griffin patrons Opal and Obsidian - one item per level, one hour on the clock, and a themed Legendary Mystery Egg at the summit.

The Griffin Trials are two rival quest ladders run by the legendary Griffins. Opal keeps the light trial in Opal's Grotto; Obsidian keeps the dark trial in Obsidian's Hollow. Each ladder has 50 levels. At every level the patron names one item, you have 60 minutes to hand it in, and each hand-in climbs you one rung. Reach level 50 and the patron entrusts you with a Legendary Mystery Egg of their theme.

Unlike Queen Bee, your progress is permanent: the level you reach is yours to keep, and failure costs levels rather than the whole climb.

Where to find it

  • Opal's Grotto and Obsidian's Hollow - both are in the Items menu, and the Daily Hub shows a card for each.
  • Serve both patrons if you like. Each keeps its own ladder, its own cooldown and its own prizes.

How an errand works

  1. Ask the patron for your current level. They name one item and the clock starts.
  2. You have 60 minutes. The NPC shops restock once on the hour, so every errand spans exactly one restock; Findley, player shops and the Auction House are open the whole time. The errand card links straight to a Findley search for the item.
  3. Nothing in stock anywhere? Post a Wanted listing at the Haggle Hut and another player can sell it straight to you - patrons only ask for things that exist in the economy, so someone has one.
  4. Hand the item in from your backpack. A copy listed in your own shop can be pulled off the shelf and handed in too. Copies locked in a pending Haggle Hut trade never count.
  5. You earn coins and climb a level. The patron then rests for 12 hours before the next errand, so a perfect climb takes at least 25 days per patron.

Having the item in your backpack already is a legitimate instant win.

There are no substitutes: the Queen Bee Ticket does not work here, and nothing else stands in for the item.

The ladder

The 50 levels fall into four bands. Within a band the cheapest thing the patron will ask for creeps up level by level; the ceiling stays put.

41-50Championepic or legendary10,000-75,000 MPC75% of valuelose 3 levels

Coin rewards are capped at 50,000 MPC per errand. There is no speed bonus - with an hour on the clock, hand it in whenever it is in your backpack.

Failing an errand - letting the hour run out, or giving up - drops you by the band's penalty and starts the 12-hour rest either way. Your level never drops below 1. Giving up does not dodge the rest, and the rest cannot be skipped with any item.

What each patron asks for

  • Opal asks for nurturing things: food, garden goods, seeds, books, nests, medicine, aquarium decor, fish, furniture, flooring, wallpaper.
  • Obsidian asks for sharper things: battle items, potions, vials, toys, accessories, tickets, upgrades, evolution items, chests, collectibles.

Anything neither patron has claimed can come up on either ladder. Patrons only ask for items you can actually buy - things stocked in an NPC shop or recently sold in player shops - and never for story rewards, Treasure Trove exclusives, MiroPass keepsakes or their own prizes.

Milestone prizes

Each prize is given the first time you reach that level on a ladder. Climbing past it again pays nothing extra.

The summit egg

Reaching level 50 earns the same Legendary Mystery Egg the Treasure Trove sells, pinned to the patron's theme: an Opal egg from Opal, an Obsidian egg from Obsidian. It hatches a Legendary of that theme you do not already own, comes with its own free pet slot, and is named and nested on the patron's page exactly like a bought egg. The egg is given once per patron per account.

A pet hatched from a summit egg stays with the account that earned it for 30 days before it can be traded or transferred.

After the summit the ladder starts again at level 1 with a champion's mark on the page. Finishing a ladder again pays 25,000 MPC, and finishing it 3 times earns the Devoted charm - but never a second egg.

The Trophy Case

Each ladder has a board in The Trophy Case: the fewest days from a player's first errand to their first summit. Reach the top of it and you hold that patron's trophy until someone climbs faster.

Good habits

  • Only ask for an errand when you can shop right away - the hour starts the moment the item is named.
  • Check your backpack first. Patrons often ask for things hoarders already own.
  • The higher bands ask for pricey epics and legendaries. A failed errand there costs three levels, so do not start one you cannot finish.
  • Serve both patrons on alternating half-days and you can fit four errands into a day.
