The Reading Nook Opens: Every Story Your Pets Have Not Heard Yet, in One Place
Ask a room full of pet owners which of their pets has heard which book and you will get a lot of thoughtful silence. Six pets, seventy books, one backpack: keeping the reading list straight has been the hardest part of story time. Not any more. The Reading Nook opens today under the Pets menu, and it keeps the list for you.
One page, every pet, every unread story
Open the Reading Nook and every hatched pet you own is lined up along the top, each with its Intelligence title and how many of the game's books it has heard so far. A violet badge on a pet means there are new stories waiting for it in your backpack right now. Pick any pet and two shelves open up.
In your backpack shows the books you already own that this pet has never heard, the ones worth the most Intelligence first, each with a Read to button. One tap and the story is read on the spot, exactly as if you had done it from the pet's page: the book is used up, the pet gets its XP and any other effect, and Intelligence is awarded.
In the shops shows the unread books that are for sale right this minute, laid out like shop cards with the cheapest copy's price and where to find it. The Nook checks the NPC shops, the Swap Swamp and other players' shops, and every Buy button lands you on that exact book's card. Books you already own are left off, so you will never buy a duplicate by mistake, and you can flip the shelf between Rarest first and Cheapest first depending on whether you are hunting Intelligence or shopping for volume.
It tells you who to read to next
At the top of the page sits one suggestion: the pet at home who is furthest behind, paired with the best unread book you already have. Press the button and it is done. When nothing on your shelf is new for anyone, the card turns into Next book to buy, with the rarest unread book on sale and its lowest price.
The Nook also gathers the rest of your reading day in one strip: the Little Library free claim, the Story Time and Story Circle daily quests, and your den's Reading Rally meter, including whether you have read to enough different pets to earn the book when the den's goal falls.
A few things worth knowing
- Every pet keeps its own journal. A book is a new story for a pet until that pet has heard it once, so the same book can be new for one pet and old news for another. The Nook shows exactly that, per pet.
- Daily limits still apply. A pet earns Intelligence from books up to five times a day. Once it has studied enough, its shelf tells you so, and you can still read for the journal and the book's other effects.
- Pets that are away are listed but wait. A pet at the Hotel, the Park, on an expedition or at School shows where it is and gets its stories when it comes home.
- Why bother? The ladder at the bottom of the page shows what each Intelligence title pays in the puzzle games, with your own pets plotted along it.
Marlowe would like it noted that the Little Library is still handing out a free book a day, and that the Nook will happily tell you which pet it is new for. Full details are in the Wiki. Happy reading.
