Catfish Glow Up: Meet the Moonstone and Prismatic Catfish
The catfish family just got a lot fancier. Two brand-new morphs hatch from a Fish Nest in the Aquarium starting today: the pearly Moonstone Catfish and the shimmering Prismatic Catfish.
Until now, catfish only had one morph, the Cocoa Catfish. If you nested two Cocoas, nothing hatched at all. Now that pair is the first step on the way to a rainbow.
Meet the new catfish

Moonstone Catfish

An epic morph that only hatches from a Fish Nest. Add it to your aquarium, or trade it while it's still bagged.

Prismatic Catfish
legendaryA Prismatic Catfish in a water-filled travel bag — a chubby catfish whose body and long whiskers shimmer in shifting rainbow prism colors. A prismatic morph that only hatches from a Fish Nest. Add it to your aquarium, or trade it while it's still bagged.
The Moonstone Catfish is an epic morph with a soft lavender and pale blue body, a milky glow and long silver whiskers. The Prismatic Catfish is the top of the family: its body and whiskers shimmer in every color of the rainbow. Like every morph, neither one is sold in a shop. You hatch them, or you trade with a player who did.
How to hatch them
Catfish climb one step at a time:
- Cocoa Catfish (rare): nest two common catfish. Whiskered and Panda Catfish are both on the shelf at Gill's Aquarium Shop. The chance is 35%, or 70% in a Coral Fish Nest.
- Moonstone Catfish (epic): nest two Cocoa Catfish. The chance is 25%, or 50% in a Coral Fish Nest.
- Prismatic Catfish: nest a legendary fish with a Moonstone Catfish. The chance is 20%, or 40% in a Coral Fish Nest.
A legendary paired with a Cocoa Catfish also hatches a Moonstone, so a legendary can help you skip collecting a second Cocoa.
How Prismatic breeding works
Every Prismatic morph needs a legendary parent. A legendary is a wildcard: it pairs with a fish from any family and lifts the result one step. Here's where legendaries come from:
- Fishing. The Prism Arowana and the Moonlit Anglerfish are the two wild legendaries. You can only find them as keepers at the Fishing Pond. A bigger catch gives better keeper odds, and hooking the Legendary Whale gives the best odds of all.
- Other players. Bagged legendaries can be bought in player shops and auctions, or traded.
- Your own Prismatics. Every Prismatic morph is legendary too. Once you've hatched a Prismatic Koi, Betta, Angelfish, Seahorse or Catfish, it can be the legendary parent for another family's Prismatic.
So you don't need to catch a new legendary for every Prismatic. Nesting never uses up a parent. Both fish just rest for a week, then they're ready to nest again. One legendary can try for a new Prismatic every week, and every Prismatic you hatch is another wildcard for your tank.
Good to know
- Your tank has to be thriving (fed and clean) before fish will nest.
- The nest itself is used up each time, whether it hatches or not. A Fish Nest is 2,000 MPC, and the Coral Fish Nest (6,000 MPC) doubles the odds. You'll always find both at the Nesting Nook.
- Misses aren't wasted. Every 4th nest in a row without a hatch is guaranteed. When your next hatch is already guaranteed, a plain Fish Nest does the job, and Gill will double-check before you spend a Coral Fish Nest on it.
- The Fish Collection now has 62 species to discover, including 26 morphs.
Catfish are first in line. More fish families will get new morphs over the coming weeks, so keep an eye on your nests. Full breeding details are on the Aquarium wiki page.
