Lights Out: Neon Fish Glow Under the Blacklight

Turn the lights down. Five neon fish now swim in the Aquarium, and when you clip a Blacklight onto your tank, they glow.

Under ordinary light they're some of the brightest fish in the water. Switch on the Blacklight and everything changes: their bodies sink into the dark, and their stripes, spots and fins blaze like neon signs. The rest of your tank goes dim and purple around them, so they're the first thing anyone sees.

Neon Lionfish

The Glowlight Danio races around with one lime green stripe and one hot pink stripe. The Electric Guppy has a big magenta fan tail covered in cyan spots. The Neon Lionfish has long fins banded in orange and cyan, like a sign lit up at night. All three are on the shelf at Gill's Aquarium Shop from today: the danio and the guppy are common, and the lionfish is rare.

Glowtail Betta

The Glowtail Betta is the rarest of the four. Its huge violet veil fins are traced with neon cyan and pink, and under the Blacklight they light up like glowing ribbons. It's an epic fish that you won't find in any shop. The only way to get one is to hook it as a keeper at the Fishing Pond, or trade with a player who did.

Neon Tetra

The Neon Tetra has lived up to its name at last. Under the Blacklight its blue stripe glows bright cyan and its tail glows neon red. If you already have Neon Tetras in your tank, they glow the moment your Blacklight goes on. You don't need to do anything.

Good to know

• Neon fish belong to ordinary families (danio, guppy, lionfish, betta and tetra), so they pair in a Fish Nest and trade at Gill's Counter like any other fish in their family.
• The glow only shows under the Blacklight. Gill sells it at the Aquarium Shop, and you can swap it in from the Tank Setup strip under your tank.
• Visitors see the glow too, so a neon tank looks great on your public aquarium page.
